Lubbock's Got Talent

It amazes me sometimes that I can learn so much from all the families and students that come see me all week.  I learn new music, current events, local restaurants, vacation possibilities, and so much more.  I hope you all learn a few things from me too.  Over the summer, one of the most popular songs chosen to be played was Star Wars.   I never saw the movie, but I have certainly heard the music.  I don't think the movie would be very exciting without the music.  Although we often pay no attention to the background music of a movie, it creates the mood for the characters and events.  The person who wrote the music for Star Wars started composing at an early age and played piano at age 7.  One of his famous quotes is" So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it's gratifying to have something you have done linger in people's memories. "

I really think this person has made an incredible impact on the musical scene of our current generation.
Questions for you for 2 stickers
1.  Who is he?  When was he born and where? How old is he?
2. Name three other movies he wrote music for excluding Star Wars.
3. How many Oscar nominations has he had and how many wins?

What if he had decided not to practice piano?  Wouldn't that have been a loss?  How many of you are future successful musicians waiting for the right moment to be discovered?  Keep trying.
