Are you Ready for Sonatina Performances?

Thanks to all who took their test this past weekend.  It will be several weeks before the results come back.  Don't forget that they are mailed to another city for checking.
On February 14(Valentine's Day) the Sonatina festival will be held at Texas Tech in the music Building.  You have received your times already.  I have been thinking about last week and comments I heard during lessons.  These comments were made by those who are not quite ready and prepared.
1.  I don't have time. (Interesting. You found time to do the things you wanted to do)
2.  No motivation.  Why do this? (Most of your friends are outside playing and you are not finished memorizing)  You may not see the value right now, but when you get a rating sheet back, superior ratings look very very nice.  It is embarrassing to say you didn't prepare.
3.  I can blame someone. (My family won't let me practice when they watch T.V.  My friend came over.  We had company.  We went out of town. (My favorite:  I had a game.)
4.  I can't memorize.  This is individualized.  Repetition is always good.  Work on hard spots. Listen to a recording. Take it little by little.

Enough preaching!  I know there are things to pull you away. Me too. You need a schedule and you must understand that all learning is worth the effort.  I am so proud of all of the students who have stepped up to the task and are ready to go. When you see the others participating, you will see the dedicated, disciplined, and determined all over our area.
You can do this!!!!

Trivia: Ask 5 people to name their favorite song?  (Depending on the ages of your participants, you will get a variety of songs.)  Give me the age and song title.  I will list any common choices next week.
