Why Should You Practice?

I am sure you think I am stuck on one subject, but if something is worth repeating, I believe it should be said over and over.  I have even heard that you have to hear something many times before it sink into the brain.  So here I go again.
I will practice because:
I will be able to play my piece like I have been asked (Counting out loud, Correct notes, Musically, etc.)

My music will be marked up in the places I had trouble during the week (Circles around missed notes; Circles around overlooked details like staccatos, dynamics; Counts written in when I’ve had trouble, etc.

I will be able to play my piece or a part of my piece with few or no mistakes.

I will be able to play my piece musically because I will be paying attention to the details. (Or adding musical details of my own that make sense.)

I will write short notes in my practice journal about my goals and what I did that made my music sound better.

I wish there was a magic wand that could be waved over all our music and it would suddenly be terrific, but the honest truth is that nothing worth doing comes easily. You have heard me say that you should practice only on days that end in "y" or only on days when you plan to eat.  Maybe that is a bit over the top, but I would like to see evidence of deligent practice. You do not often fool me.  I have tried many of the same tactics you try.  It usually turns out that I have to work harder because I put things off too long. Believe me, I have noticed the beautiful sunny weather and I would like to get out there myself.

REMINDER:  RECITAL WILL BE MAY 18
