On April 5th, Redbud Baptist Church hosted the spring Festival for students of my daughter and mine. The judges were from Littlefield and Levelland. They began to listen to performers at 8:15 and were completely finished by 11:50. Instructions given to them were that no superior would be given to a student whose music was not memorized. It was a good day, and I enjoyed seeing parents come to support their children while they played. Many events were going on yesterday, other than piano festivals, however, time was given for students to get positive feedback for their work.
In my studio, there were 28 superior ratings, 13 excellent ratings and one very good rating. As I thought about the ones who received superiors, I began to notice how many of those students are actively participating in good practice routines. I cannot think of one person who is an exception to that rule. Practicing faithfully means so much when you are under pressure. When Luke finished his performance, he commented, "My mind wasn't thinking, but my fingers knew what to do. They just played." If you have ever been under a recital pressure and suddenly realize that you are not thinking, but your fingers are well-prepared, then you know what he was talking about. I am proud of all the nice comments and respectful behavior on the part of everyone.
Our practice sheets are due to me on April 15th, Tax Day. That is allowing a few extra days for completion.
The end of the year recital will be May 24th at 1:30 p.m. at Redbud. That is Memorial Day weekend. If you have plans to be out of town, I would like to visit with you as soon as possible for an alternative plan.
Thanks again for your hard work.
