How Do You Measure Up?

I suppose that almost very class you take, every event that you participate in, and in sporting events, you determine how you measure up to others.  Sometimes that is good and sometimes it is frustrating.  If there is a person that you and trying to compete with and they push you to do your best, then I believe that can be good.  Every week, I notice who practices and who has excuses.  Some of you never disappoint me. You keep a practice log, you do the blog question, you do your computer work and the assignments that you have been given.  Those are also the students who are performing their best.  Your parents must be very proud.  A smile is your way of showing that you are proud too.

There is so much to accomplish in the musical world. Don't miss out. This is an important part of your education that you might not appreciate until later in your life.  The adults who take lessons have different reasons than you have for playing piano. All of you are challenging  your minds and bodies to do things that you never thought they could.  Are you happy with the way you measure up to others your age?  How much time to you spend preparing for a lesson?  Is it well done and all assignments are checked off?

Unfortunately, we do not live the a society of Super Bowl Piano, but if we did, would you be on the winning team or just sitting on the bench as an observer?  Next week, I will list some "top performers". I hope you are there.
Trivia:  What German composer did Chopin say was the only woman who could play his music?
She also influenced Brahms so much that he gave her credit for many of his songs.
How old was she when her husband died?
How long was her career in music and what made her stop performing?
All 3 questions will earn 3 stars.

Always strive to do your best.  If you only reach for the bottom, look how much passes you by.
