Thinking Ahead to Recitals

In just 20 days, we will have our end of the year recital.  It is a good time for a few reminders for any even that requires you to be an audience.  First of all, you perform once and the rest of the time, you will be listening as the audience.  You have been preparing to play your piece, but you need to think about the rest of the recital too.

1.  Do not talk while people are performing--not even a whisper.
2.  Do not get up and move around either.  If you come late, wait till the performer finishes and come in at the applause. You might disturb others.
3.  Turn off the cell phones.
4.  Do not rattle your program.
5.  Applaud respectfully after performances.
6.  Think about all the work you did to get where you are and respect others too.
7.  Recitals can be long, but do not act like you are bored.  Stay focused.
8.  Dress  in a respectful way.  (This may shock you, but when I played in recitals, I had to dress formally).
9.  If you MUST leave early, try to do it discreetly.  Do not leave with a fanfare.

Once again, we have two chance to perform.  Once will be at Ventura Place on May 17th and the main recital will be at Redbud Baptist Church on May 24th.  Both will occur at 1:30 and it would be terrific if you played in both of them.  Please let me know you intentions.

Do not forget to turn in your summer/fall schedules to me by May 15th.  If you need a printed copy, I can give you one this week.

Today, May 4th, is Cristofori's birthday.  He invented the piano.  How old would he be today?
